Incoherehnt Rambelings On PersonalityWhat type of personality does the young prince of Del Segno have. When thinking of Trom, several adjectives come to mind. Spastic, hyper, cheerful, stubborn, willful, brave, childish, prideful, mischievous, and maybe at times when Watanabe-san is being especially odd, Trom can even be called lecherous. As the
Prince of Sftzendo's protectorate state, Del Segno, and the only remaining
living claim to that thrown, Trom has quite a number of duties thrust upon his
head. When ever Trom introduces himself and when he thinks of his country of
birth, it's clear that he feels a great deal of pride in his country and love
for what it was and what it stood for. I think trying by trying to live up to
his fathers name and image, Trom's putting some very big shoes on his feet. At
times, this can make him seem prideful and arrogant, however what can be a
weakness can be a strength. Some of Trom's best moments come when he proves that
he is has every right to be Prince of Del Segno and bravely fights to protect
Flute or even all of Sftzendo from the forces of the Mazoku. He's even got the
guts to stand up to Guitar! I know the kid can be a cry baby, but he's young and
he's got an incredible amount of loss to deal with plus he's given himself
certain standards that he has to live up to. All in all, I think Trom has his
moments of cowardice, but when it counts, he can pull himself together and if
not save the day, be of important assistance.
But even trying to live up to his responsibilities can't kill the fun loving kid in Trom! At heart, he is still just a child, and when the moment arises, he's all kid. From playfully teasing Flute about her relationship with Hamel to exaggerating his rescue of Flute, Trom can still have fun! This fun however, sometimes goes towards the bratty. Especially in earlier issues where he actively tries to humiliate Raiel and Hamel. It can also lean towards the hormone driven. He's groped Flute a few times, though these were often the more lighthearted odd moments of the manga. I think his ability to retain this happiness, despite what he's been through, and what lies ahead makes him all the more charming a character. Unfortunately, Trom isn't all good
points. Like everyone, he's got a darker side. Trom's stubbornness works against
him when it comes to Sizer. In fact, I think it's in his relationship with Sizer
that we see how deeply his parents deaths wounded him. He can not forgive Sizer
for killing his parents. And this is not simply a sulking, I won't talk to you
hate, this is an almost fanatical, obsessive hatred. He goes after Sizer with a
deadlines that's scary! Trom, still a young boy, was willing to kill Sizer in
cold blood to revenge his parents deaths. Only Raiel's sacrifice saved her. This
event almost makes sit seem that all of Trom's cheerfulness as been a mask to
cover the seething pain inside. And Sizer, an easy target became the unfortunate
target of Trom's festering wound. Trom, being young can be expected to act with
out thinking, but this was not just impulsive, this was blind mania fueled by
wrath. Trom, as cute as he is, is to hurt to be a completely innocent child. He
wants revenge for his parents deaths. In fact, that's the whole reason he's
banded together with Hamel. To take revenge on the Mazoku for what they took
from him.
Thankfully,
though, Trom Bone isn't Sumeragi Subaru. He can forgive, and he can if not give
up his desire for revenge, channel it away from Sizer. Trom has the ability to
stop hating. He comes to grips with Sizer's past and perhaps does not completely
forgive her, but I think he can see the good person inside her. Whatever it is,
he stops trying to kill her and even tries to save her. SO clearly, he's not
continually blinded by his desire for revenge.
Ok, that's enough analysis of a manga character for one night. Though I'm sure I could say more, it'd probably get repetitive! |
