Errr... I think Peter's a coward, and Snape is brave. :-) Peter's a brave coward, though. He has daring and nerve to spare. He just doesn't have moral courage.
Ani, I think you're right that looks determine the anti-Peter prejudice. If he was handsome, and suave, and taunted Harry for betraying his parents, I'm sure there'd be a huge Peter following. As it is, they hate him because he's in a bad shape, somewhat remorseful and very miserable. Ashfae, a good point. People may also be reacting to the fact that we learnt to like Peter Pettigrew, first as Scabbers, then as the hero halfway through PoA, and then we had our trust smashed. So, they may react more bitterly than if he'd always been presented as a villain. |
