Piri Malfoy Speaks
So very right both! Rats are aggressive by any means, clever and fiercely loyal as well. The fact that he is an animagus means he isn't just a 'rat', he's a coherant sentient rat that understands exactly what's going on in the world. He thinks in 'human' terms, not 'rat' terms. He's not just about looking for the cheese in the maze now is he :chuckles:

Which means that there is hope. I agree, if he was really deadset against getting away from Ron he would have, no question. He's a rat for godssake, he could have easily escaped and scurried out some hole or other in the room, but we're led to believe that he clearly didn't, perhaps he didn't want to then?

Then of course like Cedar says, he did go after Goyle, however one thing we can say is that somewhere along the line Peter is more intelligent then given credit. Which means he probably knew Goyle for what he was, and to remain 'loyal' to Ron being his 'pet', he would know what to do. It would have looked suspicious if he bit Ron instead of Goyle don't you think?

Peter's clever, very clever, think about what he's done. Cutting off his finger to escape, blowing up a street full of Muggle by luring and trapping Sirius where he would end up looking like the guilty party. He faked his death a second time even to escape Crooks and all, possibly suspecting something was going on. If Sirius could figure out what Crookshanks is, no doubts Peter did too!

Canon says he wasn't in James and Sirius's league, but from the looks of thing think like this - Sirius got himself trapped by Peter, James ended up dead because of Peter. If you think of it this way, Peter was the clever one, doing the proverbial 'killing two birds with one stone' so to speak. Could it have even been possible that Sirius was somehow convinced by Peter to change keepers without him knowing it? Somehow I'm inclined to think that Sirius didn't just 'hand over' the keeper job, something or perhaps...someone?...convinced him it wasn't safe to do. 10 to 1 Peter had something to do with that subtle suggesting!

Peter may not have had James and Sirius's 'magical' talents, but look at Snape ...a very clever Potion Master that's very logical, survived death, turned spy, fights the odds...yet clearly has no use for 'foolish wand waving'. So that right there shows me that you don't HAVE to have the 'talent', just the intelligence, cleverness and logic, of which just looking at the facts he has plenty of!

Oh I agree there. Rat's by and large though not the most err...'brightest' (and as stated in PoA Peter was the one who did need the most help becoming an Animagus as well), they certainly are not the horribly anti-social, cowardly, well..err...'rats' that people think they are. The thing is they have gotten such a bad 'rap' over the years it's really said

I bet that Pete was a big influence in the map of inside the school. After all think on it, James being a stag well, heh good luck being 'hidden' there. Remus only transformed once a month and seemed a bit well...not as 'adventurous' I guess. I see him as a very studious, very quite, cautious type actually when he was a child. And Sirius as a grim like bear of a dog heck, I'd be running daft if I saw him in the corridor at night!

No, I think internally Pete had to do a lot more exploring then given credit. Who else might have found some of those 'secret' passages otherwise? Granted they had the cloak, but still they would have needed a 'scouter' to find some of those places, someone small and agile and courageous enough to ferret them out. Hence our adorable Peter! :nod nod:

Peter was liked by the group, even Sirius said they would have died for him in PoA. And personally I think if Voldie hadn't gotten control of Peter he would have done the same. Though as you know I already expressed those views in the Peter mails. :P

Rats are good guys, and I personally stick that Peter was too. I really think he would have been a really sweet husband/father or whatnot, very caring and protective if he'd been given a chance to be. (course I still cannot picture him with anyone but Sirius...oh the tortured and adoring possiblities there! :sighs happily: Can you imagine if they ever did have a child though, wonder what it would be like? Heck why not though, it IS the wizarding world, anything possible! :grin

Okay I said I do like Peter :glances round nervously and ducks out of range of anything thrown: but...I really do like him! I think when he was younger he must have been quite an interesting chap...quiet, studious, chess playing sort who was happy to have such good friends.

I can see him with anyone (slash included) as a younger person. I guess I do adore the younger Peter a lot. I can't say I fancy the older Peter much, but that's all right too. He can stay immortalised as forever young in me mind anyday!

Actually I have written a fic where Harry and Draco fall back in time via a strange mirror, Peter falls for Harry, they snog until Harry realises that he really loves Draco. In the end Sirius was the one who ended up with Peter and they had a son (yeah I know, but hey it IS the magical world right? What good is potions if you can't have kids somehow I say! :grins....Anyway the fic is called Misguided Intentions and I had a wonderful time writing Peter into the role I placed him in. He even adores animals and gives Sirius a puppy named Inkspot!

Anyway enjoy it, and I would love to find any fics with as the good guy, no matter what the pairing. (well...all right, as a 'young' Peter, not older...and no Voldie pairings eesh! :gaze up; that's just not me cuppa :P)

Tara for now!
